Types of Psychotherapy
There are currently several approaches to psychotherapy, each using different methods of treatment. The method is chosen individually depending on the goals and needs of the patient.
The main methods of psychotherapy:
- psychoanalysis: includes many types of therapy and regards unconscious processes as the basis of the human psyche;
- cognitive behavioral therapy: works with thoughts and behavior and is often used for various anxiety disorders and fears;
- Gestalt therapy: analyzes a person's contacts with the outside world and physical reactions to suppressed emotions, and explores reactions to past situations that are projected onto the present;
- existential psychotherapy: studies not separate manifestations of the psyche but a person's overall perception of life, guiding the patient toward awareness and change of their life path;
- art therapy: a method of psychological correction based on creative activity, most often visual art, that influences the patient's psycho-emotional state;
- hypnosis;
- relaxation techniques.
In the psychotherapy department of CSM Clinic, work with patients is based on an interdisciplinary principle. Our doctors use methods that combine parallel treatment of somatic diseases with psychopharmacotherapy, and physiotherapy with psychotherapy. We provide psychotherapeutic care in the form of individual consultations, family psychotherapy and inpatient treatment. The extensive clinical practice of our specialists allows psychotherapeutic methods to be combined with medication treatment.
In addition to the main types of therapy, we use a newer psychotherapy approach in Bila Tserkva: treatment of eating disorders with Fisiotherapy. It is an approach to working with eating disorders that allows a detailed study of the etiopathogenesis of the condition and of the original meaning and factors behind this form of adaptation. Through deep involvement in therapy, a connection between doctor and patient is established, which aims to support the patient's recovery.
Our therapists also use approaches for various psychosomatic disorders:
- audio therapy by the Alfred Tomatis method: audio-vocal training to stimulate brain function;
- InTime auditory therapy: aimed at supporting cognitive abilities, attention and work capacity;
- cerebellar stimulation: a system of physical exercises intended to improve the function of the cerebellum and brainstem (brain structures involved in coordination, movement and speech);
- art therapy: treatment through creative activity;
Clinical psychologists and psychotherapists see patients at CSM Clinic. Work with patients is conducted with complete confidentiality. If necessary, we involve doctors in narrow specialties: neurologists, internists and psychiatrists. We work with both adults and children. In treating children's conditions, we also use corrective classes and sensory integration.
