Traction therapy is a treatment procedure in which a special device delivers a series of dosed (by force and time) effects on the deep muscles and tissues of the spine.
According to the WHO, 80% of the world's population periodically experience back pain. Lower back pain is the most common. According to specialists, it accounts for 60 to 90% of all spinal problems. After a comprehensive examination by a neurologist or vertebrologist, spinal traction (stretching) may be prescribed to patients with this problem.
Spinal traction is a treatment procedure that is considered an alternative to manual therapy. A special device delivers a series of dosed (by force and time) effects on the deep muscles and tissues of the spine: it slowly and gently stretches and relaxes them, increasing the distance between the vertebrae and joints, widening the intervertebral openings, offloading the spinal motion segments, reducing intradiscal pressure, unblocking the intervertebral joints and improving blood circulation.
Such manipulations may provide both immediate pain relief and a longer-term therapeutic effect in degenerative and compression disorders of the spine. They are also used as prevention of spinal diseases and at the first signs of osteochondrosis.
Traction therapy is available at the multidisciplinary CSM Clinic. In our full-cycle medical center, you can take a course of traction therapy on the BTL-6000 device, as well as all the necessary diagnostic and consultation services before and after it. Traction therapy for children is also available at the clinic (more often after age 16).
Clinical indications for spinal traction may include:
A course of spinal traction at CSM Clinic is prescribed only by a doctor and only after a full examination and a final diagnosis.
And these are far from all the diagnoses for which traction therapy may be used in children and adults.
Traction is strictly contraindicated or may be postponed for a time (at the doctor's discretion) if the patient has the following conditions:
A course of traction therapy is also stopped if the patient has a negative reaction to a trial traction.
For patients under 16 and over 60, the procedure is prescribed very rarely because of the risk of an adverse reaction.
There is no specific preparation for spinal traction. But this does not mean that spinal traction therapy cannot cause complications. They do occur and, by cause, can conditionally be divided into four main groups:

Spinal traction therapy on the BTL-6000 device is a procedure in which the patient is comfortably positioned on a special three-section couch with height adjustment and an innovative belt system for the lumbar and cervical spine. The new traction unit of the BTL-6000 allows individual therapeutic modes to be set (traction force, speed, etc.).
The procedure is divided into several stages:
The duration of one session is 10-25 minutes.
The course lasts from 6-7 to 10-15 sessions. For some diagnoses, several courses of 10-15 procedures over 3-4 months are prescribed.
During the session, a clinic specialist will explain the orthopedic regimen the patient should follow after the procedure.
Spinal traction may have the following effects on the body:
