His professional path spans more than half a century of service to medicine, science, and patients. Vitalii Ivanovych is Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Bogomolets National Medical University, head of the Department of Restorative and Functional Neurosurgery, and a highest-category neurosurgeon, and he is the author of original scientific and clinical developments that shaped separate areas of modern Ukrainian neurosurgery.
Vitalii Ivanovych is the organizer and head of new areas in neurosurgery: restorative neurosurgery and neurotransplantology. He developed and introduced into clinical practice new neurosurgical operations aimed at restoring impaired functions of the nervous system. His scientific developments are protected by numerous author's certificates, inventions, and patents.
A special place in his scientific work is held by the study of the mechanisms of the effect of neuronal stem cells on the nervous system in experiments and in clinical practice, as well as the development of approaches to restoring the functions of the central and peripheral nervous system in severe organic lesions.
Under his leadership, methods were developed and introduced for treating spasticity, extrapyramidal disorders, pain syndromes, consequences of traumatic brain and spinal injury, peripheral nerve injuries, brachial plexus injuries, focal dystonias, and other complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions.

A separate chapter of Vitalii Ivanovych's professional work is the organization of medical care for casualties during the Revolution of Dignity, the war in eastern Ukraine, and the full-scale aggression of Russia. He headed operational medical headquarters, coordinated the provision of highly specialized care to the wounded, organized an academic hospital base, and took part in building a system of medical support for military and civilian casualties.
