During ECG monitoring, you may use a computer, smartphones and other gadgets. If necessary, an ultrasound may be performed, as long as the procedure does not involve the chest.
During monitoring, the patient should keep a special diary. It records the time the person went to bed and woke up, meal and medication times, physical exertion, stressful episodes and any complaints (dizziness, rapid heartbeat and so on). In some cases, the patient is advised to climb stairs several times a day (without extra effort), note the time of the test and describe how the exertion felt. The diary entries help the specialist link physical and emotional activity with changes in the ECG.
After monitoring is complete, the patient comes to CSM Clinic to have the device removed. The diary is left with the specialist for preparing the report. Interpretation of a Holter ECG takes several hours.
Results and Their Interpretation
Holter monitoring results are provided the day after the test is completed. The doctor prepares the Holter ECG report and gives the results to the patient. The ECG monitoring analysis looks like a text with various unfamiliar graphs, numbers, terms and images. The report may indicate the presence of abnormalities, but the final interpretation of the results should be made by a doctor.
