Procedure and results of children's tests
Venous blood is drawn from a child in the morning. Blood is given on an empty stomach, with the last meal no later than 8-12 hours before the blood draw. In the morning, only water may be drunk.
Blood is not drawn immediately after the child enters the procedure room. A few minutes are always given so the child can look around and get used to the unfamiliar surroundings. For an infant, blood should be drawn between feedings, closer to the second feeding. Check the child's hands: they should be warm (blood filling of the vessels depends on it).
Urine for analysis is collected in a special plastic container. For small children, urine is collected with a urine collection bag. Before collecting urine, it is important to carry out hygiene procedures.
Urine must be delivered to the medical laboratory no later than 3 hours after collection.
Stool is collected in a clean, dry container. About one teaspoon of the material is enough for the analysis. The container must be delivered to the pediatric laboratory within 10-12 hours after the bowel movement. A pinworm (enterobiasis) scraping is taken at the clinic in the morning. For an objective analysis of the material, the child should not be washed either in the morning or in the evening before the test.
