Tremor: Treatment with the Remiokor Device

Tremor is involuntary rhythmic oscillation (movement) of muscles that alternate with one another. It usually involves the hands, head, face, vocal cords or legs.

What Is Tremor?

Tremor can be:

• normal (physiological) — considered a normal phenomenon that appears in stressful situations;
• pathological — may be a symptom of a neurological disease, such as Parkinson disease.

Tremor differs by:

• frequency (temporary and constant);
• severity and exacerbations (gradual, sudden).

Tremor is most noticeable when a person tries to perform habitual movements with any part of the body. Patients often come to us with this concern, and our specialists are experienced in helping with it.

Treatment Can Be Comfortable, Too

Our Remiokor device was developed and manufactured by the company In Vitro. It is used as part of comprehensive treatment for patients with musculoskeletal impairment caused by damage to the nervous system (central and peripheral).

Remiokor works by studying muscle tissue during voluntary movements. Various sensors and the device's "brain" display the results of muscle activity on a monitor. Treatment with Remiokor is based on detailed computer analysis of muscle function while the patient performs movements. Using the sensors and the computer, the patient sees on the monitor how his or her muscles work. This may help compensate for deficits in the sense of one's own body movements. In addition, the program aims to form a new stable motor pattern by teaching the body "new" movements. None of this is accompanied by painful sensations; on the contrary, patients usually find it comfortable.

Studies suggest that biofeedback may enhance the effect of rehabilitation and improve emotional state. The equipment is simple and reliable to use. It is operated by a member of our medical staff (the procedure is performed only under the supervision of neurologists or orthopedists). Stable results, high patient motivation sustained throughout rehabilitation, and procedures suited to many patients are what the Remiokor approach aims to combine.
