Neuropathy usually refers to a disorder of the peripheral nerves that develops for a number of reasons other than inflammation. When a single nerve is affected, doctors call the condition mononeuropathy. If the number of damaged nerves localized in one area increases, it is a multiple-type disease, and if different areas are affected, a diagnosis of "polyneuropathy" is made.
Problems of this kind occur in patients of any age group. The condition may cause consequences that stay with a person for life. This most often occurs with damage to the trigeminal or facial nerve, when the condition is accompanied by significant changes in facial expression or the appearance of spasms.
At CSM Clinic, we offer leading brands of physical therapy equipment that aim to help achieve results in the treatment of different types of neuropathy.
Although the disease affects the nerves, it is most often not marked by pain: the patient complains of mild tingling in the area of the affected nerve, numbness, reduced sensation in a particular part of the body, and reduced activity of the limbs during work (for example, a weaker grip when making a fist). Some forms of neuropathy can affect digestion and the function of the urinary system. This happens because of nerve damage and impaired supply of nutrients to the muscle, which leads to its dysfunction. The muscle stops contracting with normal intensity. As the nerve's ability to transmit impulses decreases, sensation in the affected area is reduced and symptoms appear, depending on which nerve is affected. Typical manifestations include muscle weakness, gait disturbance, involuntary muscle twitching, and dry skin with changes in color.
Causes can include injuries, infectious diseases and even a lack of vitamins; diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune and infectious diseases, multiple sclerosis, metabolic disorders, and folic acid and other B vitamin deficiency. Neuropathy often occurs in the context of alcoholism or HIV.
The disease often progresses over time, sometimes for several years, without symptoms, and can be triggered by causes such as stressful situations, alcohol dependence and worsening of a chronic disease.
We are often asked how to treat neuropathy.
We advise patients to consider high-intensity magnetic therapy. This treatment is non-invasive and is used for acute or chronic pain. According to our observations, patients may feel relief after 1-2 procedures. After 5-7 sessions, a lasting reduction in pain has been reported in some cases, including when other methods did not lead to the desired results. This treatment can be used from the first days of the condition.
We use the Super Inductive System (SIS) device, which is designed to relieve pain even with short exposure. There is no contact with the skin, which is important in this condition, and above all the procedure is painless. The pain-relieving effect of SIS is based on three different theories, in which pain control differs depending on the frequency range. As a result, high-intensity magnetic therapy may help relieve pain in a short time, regardless of the stage of the pathological process, in chronic or acute forms.
Before a full course of treatment, each individual patient undergoes a personal standard examination to determine the location of the affected area. When working with patients, we always explain the procedure, describe the sensations they will feel, and explain that the procedure is designed to be safe when performed as prescribed. During sessions, the center of the applicator is positioned above the area at a minimal distance from the skin, and the treatment protocol is started with the intensity set.
