Paraparesis is a neurological syndrome that affects two limbs. It is caused by a disruption of the nerve signal pathway.

Limb Paraparesis: Causes and Treatment

Paraparesis is one of the human movement disorders. To treat the condition properly and prevent relapses in the future, it is necessary to know what kind of disease this is and how dangerous it is.

Paraparesis is a neurological syndrome that affects two limbs. It is caused by a disruption of the nerve signal pathway. Because the nerve signal does not reach its destination, muscle tone and activity weaken, and in the most severe cases complete immobilization is possible. That is why we recommend taking a course of specific correction to treat this condition.

The effect of using the innovative method may become noticeable as early as the first sessions.

Symptoms of Paraparesis

The neurological syndrome is characterized by weakening of the muscle strength of the limbs due to damage to the nerve signal pathways. A severe form of the condition may be accompanied by paralysis (plegia), in which no voluntary movements occur.

The main symptoms of paraparesis of the lower limbs appear quickly, and over time the pace of the disease's development and its intensity increase. In some cases, however, the disease evolves rather slowly.

The main symptoms of the condition:

Causes of Paraparesis

Paresis often occurs due to damage to, compression of, or disease of the spine, spinal cord, nerve roots or blood vessels.

The main causes of paraparesis:

When the upper motor pathway (from the brain to the spinal cord) is affected, central paresis develops, characterized by weakness of the affected limbs and a gradual increase in spasticity. Damage to the lower motor pathway (from the spinal cord to the peripheral nerves) leads to peripheral paresis, which is accompanied by weakness and thinning (loss of bulk) of the muscle fibers of the affected limb and their involuntary contractions.

What Are the Risks of Paraparesis?

The pathological symptoms of the condition can appear very quickly, rapidly gain strength and regress sluggishly. At first, treatment and recovery are rather slow. In particularly severe and advanced cases, the disease is associated with pelvic organ dysfunction. In addition, muscle weakness often worsens the patient's mental state. The person becomes irritable and aggressive or, on the contrary, lethargic, sleeps poorly and loses appetite. In some cases, fever, reduced immunity or digestive disturbances are observed.

The disease is often diagnosed in children, and after birth injuries as a precaution. In that case the child is under the medical supervision of the parents, while the doctor performs the necessary procedures and selects treatment methods.

At an older age, after an appropriate examination, the diagnosis is either removed or confirmed with a disability status. In children, in the early stages of the disease only slight discomfort is felt, and then pain appears in the areas of damaged peripheral nerves.

With the progression of acute diseases of the central nervous system, paresis and paralysis develop unexpectedly and very quickly. Patients with complete loss of sensation in the lower limbs (for example, with spastic paralysis) often do not react to burns or bruises and require special care. For example, the formation of pressure points or trophic ulcers, and swelling and bluish discoloration of the legs, cause great difficulties for medical staff.

We Are Often Asked: How Is Paraparesis Treated?

Treatment of the condition should be started only after a complete diagnostic examination and determination of the degree of injury. This procedure should be entrusted to a highly qualified specialist. We recommend an innovative method developed by staff of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, called micropolarization. It is based on the concept of involuntary self-regulation, which relies on activating the body's natural processes of regulating physiological functions that have become suppressed due to personal characteristics and adverse environmental factors.

During the sessions, patients may show improved perception of a sound image through restructuring of the spectral characteristics of the EEG, which may create a new functional state of the CNS.

The method is used in clinical practice and has been studied in research at various institutes and in clinical trials at a number of leading clinics around the world.

Submit a request for a micropolarization course and take a step toward managing paraparesis.
