Symptoms of Asthenic-Depressive Syndrome
One of the main symptoms of asthenic-depressive syndrome is general weakness and rapid fatigue, which shows up as low work capacity. But this weakness differs in that it does not go away even after proper rest and can last a very long time. Such fatigue is caused by constant overstimulation of the nervous system.
Other characteristic signs of asthenic-depressive syndrome:
- slowed thinking, speech and motor activity;
- increased anxiety;
- emotional lability (sharp mood swings);
- hyperesthesia (heightened sensitivity of the skin and teeth to any stimuli);
- daytime sleepiness and disturbed night sleep.
Notably, young people with asthenic-depressive syndrome show symptoms marked by a predominance of sharply negative emotions. Such young people are prone to tantrums and gloomy self-absorption, anger at everyone and everything, rudeness in communication, unprovoked protests and challenges to society.
Complications of Asthenic-Depressive Syndrome
This disorder often precedes deep depression accompanied by suicidal thoughts. Shortly before it, the low mood suddenly changes to an elevated mood, for which it is enough for the person to simply get a normal rest. This false improvement is a characteristic sign of asthenic-depressive syndrome.
Improper treatment of asthenic-depressive syndrome, or its absence, can lead to a severe functional disorder: vascular dementia. Brain damage is expressed as impaired cognitive functions.
