A brain contusion is damage to a specific area of the brain that occurs during mechanical impact. At the point where force is applied, an area of increased pressure forms, where primary damage to nerve endings occurs. On the opposite side from the injury, an area of low pressure forms, where pathological processes are activated.
When the head is struck, the following occur:
In many injured people, an intracranial hematoma forms after a brain contusion.
The symptoms depend on how severely the brain was damaged by the impact:

Stages of diagnosing a brain contusion:
Treatment is carried out by conservative methods. In severe cases, surgical intervention by a neurosurgeon is required, and recovery takes place in intensive care until the condition stabilizes.
A mild brain contusion usually allows for recovery of the patient's functions. After moderate damage, mild impairment of movement coordination may remain later. In severe brain contusion, the mortality rate is high (about 30%), and among survivors a large number are left with disability: epilepsy, speech impairment, and mental disorders develop.
