The Balance Master is a device created by Neurocom (USA) for assessing and training balance, movement coordination and muscle control. In the USA, this series of devices was originally used to train NASA astronauts. Later, the Balance Master began to be used to help children with speech and behavior problems.
Sessions are recommended for children with delayed speech development, alalia, autism, stuttering and other speech problems, as well as with reading and writing difficulties (dyslexia, dysgraphia). They are also recommended for children with behavior and attention problems and hyperactivity.
It is commonly believed that we need balance only for walking, running and sports. In fact, the cerebellum acts as a kind of timer for the body. It controls and coordinates almost all processes, including speech and behavior. Many children with speech and behavior problems are found to have issues with cerebellar function. Training on the Balance Master may help address these problems.
Cerebellar stimulation also uses exercises on the interactive Wii Fit platform under the Learning Breakthrough program, a system of exercises on Dr. Bilgow's balance board.
During the sessions, the child stands on a special platform that responds very sensitively to movements or shifts of the center of gravity. Balls, special stairs and other equipment are used to make the exercises varied and engaging.
Sessions can begin at 3-4 years of age. Regular sessions are needed, 3-4 times a week.
