Treatment methods in traumatology and orthopedics
After a condition is identified, the appropriate treatment method is selected. For injuries, osteosynthesis procedures are chosen so that the bones heal faster. Treatment can be conservative and include manipulations to restore tissues. The orthopedic traumatologist may also prescribe medications or injections (intravenous, intramuscular, or intra-articular). Treatment of orthopedic conditions also includes physical therapy, therapeutic exercise, and massage, which are used only as prescribed by a doctor.
In addition to treatment methods, traumatology and orthopedics also include wearing external supports. These include corsets and belts for postural curvature, orthopedic insoles for foot problems, braces for the knees or elbows, and other ways to support and correct problem areas.
If conservative treatment in traumatology does not help, arthroscopy may be needed, involving specialists in surgery and anesthesiology.
